When we consider how to bolster Hutchinson’s core, revitalize our local economy and set our community up for a sustainable and thriving future, are we asking the right questions on how to do that? As taxpayers, has the growth-and-development model we’ve been following for the past half-century truly worked in our favor, or is it time to seek different paths?

Join the City of Hutchinson, the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce, Hutch Rec, Young Professionals of Reno County and Hutchinson Community Foundation for a “Curbside Chat” with Strong Towns founder and president Charles Marohn as we engage in a frank discussion about where we as a community might better focus our energy to achieve a collective vision of our future.

Marohn will explain, in plain language, how so many American cities have found themselves in decline after decades of “growth,” how we can measure a town’s success and how all citizens can help make our community stronger.

Strong Towns is a media organization leading a national conversation about a model of development that allows America’s cities, towns and neighborhoods to become financially strong and resilient. They are challenging every American to fundamentally rethink how our cities are built and shining a spotlight on an approach that will make us truly prosperous.

Marohn is a professional engineer licensed in Minnesota and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota's Institute of Technology and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree from the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute.

He is the lead author of three volumes of “Thoughts on Building Strong Towns” as well as the author of “A World Class Transportation System.” He hosts the Strong Towns Podcast and is a primary writer for Strong Towns’ web content. He has presented Strong Towns concepts in hundreds of cities and towns across North America and in 2017 was named one of the 10 Most Influential Urbanists of all time by Planetizen.
