Several Large Sporting Events Coming to Hutchinson in March

Wednesday, March 03, 2021

March will bring some large events to Hutchinson and a much needed boost to our local hospitality industry.  The National DII Christian Homeschool Basketball Championship will host their event March 4-6 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.  This is the first year of a three-year contract for this national championship to be held in Hutchinson.  Nearly 80 teams and over 3,000 spectators will be in town from a six-state region. This event is only open to qualifying teams and their fans, no general public admission will be allowed due to COVID-19.

The 3A Boys & Girls State Basketball Championship at the Sports Arena will run Thursday, March 11 – Saturday, March 13 and feature eight teams instead of the usual 16 teams.  The slight change in duration and number of teams will allow for two games per day at the Sports Arena with the Championships being played on Saturday.  Limited tickets will be available for spectators associated with the qualifying schools.  Hutchinson Community College Athletic Department hosts this Championship and ticket questions can be directed to their office.

Beginning March 13, the Hutchinson YMCA will host the Road to Tokyo Gymnastics Meet at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in the Sunflower South building.  This event was rescheduled from April 2020 when the event had to be canceled.  There are 400 gymnasts registered for the weekend-long meet.

COVID-19 safety protocols are being followed, which include social distancing and requiring mask wearing, as well as limited spectator capacity at each venue.
