Kansas Shrine Bowl Coming to Hutchinson Next Month

Tuesday, May 04, 2021

Since being awarded the Kansas Shrine Bowl in 2018, three years of planning has been going on and Hutchinson is now only seven weeks away from welcoming the 48th Annual Kansas Shrine Bowl for the first time! More than just a football game, the Shrine Bowl students, athletes, Kansas Shriners, and volunteers will spend five days in Hutch, at 14 different venues and execute 18 events, all before the football game on the evening of June 26th!

"We're excited to bring our events to Hutchinson this summer. We truly have something for everyone. The unique facilities and tremendous local support in Hutchinson will allow us to execute fun events and continue our mission of making a considerable impact on Shriners Hospitals for Children”, said B.J. Harris, Executive Director for the Kansas Shrine Bowl.

“Our goal from the start was to showcase what makes Hutchinson standout from other cities across Kansas. We have met that goal by being able to host events at Strataca, the Cosmosphere, the Kansas State Fairgrounds, the Sports Arena, Hobart-Detter Field and Gowans Stadium. All of these venues are iconic to Hutchinson and we are confident they will make for an incredible student experience,” said Holly Leiker, Director of National Sales and Sports Events for Visit Hutch.

The Band Camp, Cheer Camp and Football Camp students will begin arriving in Hutchinson as early as June 23rd.  Wednesday and Thursday are devoted to practices, team photos, and the Shriners Hospital Experience that will take place at the Cosmosphere. Thursday evening the students will be hosted by Hutch Rec for a cookout at Hobart-Detter followed by a swim party at Salt City Splash.

Friday is when the activities for the fans and Hutchinson residents start.  Crazy Horse Golf Club will play host to their annual golf tournament, followed by the players banquet that evening at the Meadowlark Building on the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

Saturday is a busy day beginning at 7:15 am with the annual 5k Run happening underground at Strataca. That will be followed by the 10:00 am parade through Downtown Hutchinson, hosted by Ad Astra Per Aspera Broadcasting and Eagle Communications. The Kansas Shrine Bowl/Sports In Kansas High School Combine will take place at Gowan’s as well as the Jr. All-Star Challenge. The Sports Arena will be the host venue for a youth cheer clinic on Saturday afternoon.

Finally, at 7:00 pm the 48th Annual Kansas Shrine Bowl game will kick-off at Gowans Stadium.  There are limited tickets available now on the Shrine Bowl website. To sign-up for any of the events on Friday and Saturday, visit www.kansasshrinebowl.com/events.

“Hosting the Kansas Shrine Bowl would not be possible without the tremendous support from all of the venues and entities listed above, as well as Hutchinson Community College housing, dining, and athletics. We cannot thank these venues and volunteers enough for their desire to jump all in and help successfully host the Kansas Shrine Bowl in Hutch,” Holly Leiker said.
